Monday Night Steak

Monday Night Steak

Monday is steak night. Everyone loves a good steak but it has to be done right.  For me, I like a nice medium rare steak while binge watching Jessica Jones on Netflix. This recipe is really simple and it takes less than 10 minutes to cook. Pair with a baked potato or steamed vegetables and you have a meal.

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon thyme, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary, chopped
  • 2 lean New York Steak strip steaks
  • 1 teaspoon Montreal steak spice
  • salt and pepper

  • Coat steaks with olive oil and season with Montreal steak spice, salt and pepper
  • Make garlic butter compound by mixing butter, garlic, thyme and rosemary
  • Add steaks to iron cast skillet over high heat
  • Sear the steaks for 6 minutes and flip every minute until a thin, even crust is formed on the outside
  • Baste the steaks with the compound butter and continue flipping until the steaks reach your desired doneness
  • Check with thermometer and it should read 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Allow the steak to rest for 5-10 minutes and serve

I love the tenderness and buttery flavour of this steak. To avoid burning your steaks, flip your steaks regularly for even searing. The steaks can easily become tough if you overcook them. Now how do you like your steak done?
