Linda Modern Thai is one of my favourite Thai restaurants. I always go back again and again. For me, I love authentic Asian cuisine and I would be very offended if you brought me to an Asian fusion restaurant. It’s like trying to convince me that a fake Prada bag was authentic. Nope, this girl doesn’t do fusion anything. As Canada’s first Thai Select premium restaurant, Linda Modern Thai was awarded by the Thai government for authentic Thai food and outstanding service.
The ambiance was very authentic Thai with modern touches. Instead of waiting, my friend and I were served right away. The Pla Meuk Tod (Fried Calamari) was one of the best fried calamari I ever had. The calamari was lightly battered letting the crunch and the delicate flavour of the calamari to shine. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Crispy Duck Leg with the slaw, pancake, lettuce and cabbage. As much as I liked the taste of the duck, I wished I had more of the pancake and less of the slaw. I liked that the acidity of the slaw was balanced by the sweetness of the grapow sauce. Also, presentation was lacking. Khao Niaow Ma Muang (Mango Sticky Rice) was a very interesting combination of the tartness of the mango with the sweetness of the glutinous rice.
I would definitely come back to try other items on the menu. Overall, this has been a great experience for me. Service was excellent and the food tasted great.
